Newcomers, Chesterfield struggled for the first half of the game whilst Loughboro took advantage of the novice team and their lack of experience. Chesterfield played a strong set of forwards led by Yvette Waterthorpe but this just was not good enough against a fit, young university side. A good clean game was played throughout with tremendous effort from Danni Booth (fullback) Lorna Hall (first time hooker) and Viktoria Longden (winger). Despite losing badly everyone enjoyed the game and took it in the spirit of sport!

First League Win for Chesterfield!

Chesterfield Ladies may just have found their winning combination. Despite the strong winds, the girls performed heroically both in the pack and in the backs against an equally strong side. It was a fast and demanding game throughout and everyone gave 100%. Two tries came from newcomer fly-half Zoe Griffiths, winger, Mel Canning and 2nd row Yvette Waterfall and centre, Danni Booth miraculously kicked 2 conversions! Brilliant play from Emma Simms, Ele Herbert and Laura Falconer.

Chesterfield put up a storming defence against the university of sporting excellence side this Sunday. After playing Loughboro’ at the beginning of the season and getting thrashed 84-0, the team were determined to keep the score below 50. A muddy pitch kept the game slow throughout and the pack won most scrums with hooker Lorna Hall winning the put ins. 2nd row Ele Herbert and flanker Rachel Spolton showed great defensive qualities and as did Mel Canning, who made a magnificent display as full back.

Chesterfield Ladies (37) V Stoneygate Ladies (30) 7th Oct 2001 Hat-Trick for Sara The first win of the season for Chesterfield Ladies! Chesterfield scrum half, Sara Hall, played her usual brilliant game, scoring 3 times and kicking one conversion. The teams were evenly matched, Chesterfield having the strength, and Stoneygate, speed. Three Chesterfield players played for the Stoneygate side to make an 11-woman team and Chesterfield fielded an extra player. The scrums were impressive, Chesterfield winning the ball on most occasions. Good performances from Suzanne Parsons, Fiona Henson, Ele Herbert, Maria Allford, newcomer Emma and Laura Falconer on her return from a year out after a broken ankle.

Chesterfield Ladies 0 Stoneygate Ladies 27 2nd Dec 2001 Chesterfield put a good side out against the Leicester based team, but unfortunately not quite good enough. A clean game was enjoyed by both sides. Excellent effort came from Fiona Henson, newcomers Cheryl Sawford and Rachel Spolton.
Chesterfield Ladies 15 Dinnington Ladies 22 13th Jan 2002 This weekend saw Chesterfield Rugby Club host a local derby against Dinnington. Both sides were evenly matched with a mixture of novice & experienced players. Chesterfield tries came from Melanie Canning, Suzanne Parsons & Yvette Waterfall. Unfortunately Chesterfield Number 8, Fiona Henson, had 2 tries disallowed. Excellent play from Rachel Spolton, Danielle Booth, Lorna Hall and Maria Allford Chesterfield Ladies 15 Dinnington 5 Sunday 3rd Feb 2002 Chesterfield travelled away to Dinnington for a good evenly matched game. The first half saw both sides struggling against strong defenders but Chesterfield were able to keep up their strong defence longer and Danni Booth, Cheryl Sawford and Rachel Spolton were able to break through to score a try each. Forward of the match was awarded to hooker, Lorna Hall and back of the match to centre, Emma Simms. A good, hard game was relished by all.
